Dosing Guide

Cannabis Dosing Guide

Everyone is different. That's why we make our confections in a variety of dosing options. We recommend starting with a small “microdose” and working your way up. That way you know exactly what to expect.

What is THC?

Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive component of cannabis, and it’s responsible for the “high” sensation you feel. THC is often recommended for treatment of pain, muscle spasticity, glaucoma, insomnia, low appetite, nausea, and anxiety.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is also a psychoactive component of cannabis, but unlike THC it does not produce a euphoric “high” sensation. CBD has been shown to help with anxiety, depression, and seizures, and is often used to treat inflammation, pain, inflammatory bowel disease, nausea, and migraines.

Why take them together?

Interaction between cannabinoids has been shown to increase their benefits thanks to something called the entourage effect. Essentially, this means that together, they are greater than the sum of their parts. This is why many people find that taking a combination of CBD and THC can be more effective than either by itself.

Edible vs. Inhaled Cannabis

When you smoke or vape cannabis, the THC travels directly to the brain. As a result, the effects come on very quickly and then start to fade.

When you ingest cannabis, on the other hand, the effects take longer to feel. That’s because the Delta-9 THC is first metabolized by your liver, which converts it to 11-hydroxy-THC. This in turn gets absorbed into your bloodstream. The result is a more intense and longer-lasting high.

When can I expect to feel it?

Effects of cannabinoids typically come on within about 30 minutes but can take up to 2 to 4 hours to kick in — and last for several hours.

Start small. Be patient.

If you’re new to edible cannabis, or it’s been a while, here’s our recommended method for finding your THC dosing sweet spot.

Start with 2.5mg. Wait one hour. If you don’t notice any effects yet, have a small snack and wait another hour. Still not feeling anything? Wait at least 6 hours before trying again with 5mg.

You may not feel anything on the first few tries. That’s okay. Be patient. You can always try a higher dose next time. Our goal is to prevent unwanted side effects from taking too much at once.

Note: While you are experimenting, please stay home or in another safe environment where you won’t need to operate a motor vehicle. Safety first.

What if I overdo it?

According to the CDC, excessive amounts of THC can result in feelings of “confusion, anxiety, paranoia, panic, fast heart rate, delusions or hallucinations, increased blood pressure, and severe nausea or vomiting.”

If you ingest too high a dose, don’t panic. It might feel uncomfortable for a while, but you’re safe. The effects will wear off within 6-8 hours. In the meantime, try to relax with a warm shower, mellow music, or a nap.
